IEP dilemma
March 31st, 2007I am quite unhappy with a recent development regarding David’s IEP and I have a sinking feeling I can’t really do anything about it.
David has been telling me the reason he hasn’t been getting help on his work when he needs it is the classroom aide is almost always helping another child. Considering he isn’t at all comfortable with his classroom teacher, no way is he going to ask her for help. I found out last Friday from the other child’s mom that it isn’t even on his IEP to have a classroom aide, just David’s. At first, I thought I had them. Why did they put that child in David’s class this year when it isn’t even on his IEP that he needs an aide? I was told by another parent that I can’t even mention another child in the IEP meeting. This is bogus. They know this other child likes to be mothered and has the pathetic thing going on that gets him attention from adults. I don’t have anything against this child of course but I just don’t want him taking the time of the aide when his parents don’t want him to have one.
My only thought is to request David have a personal aide again and just have him not aware of any change. I have no trouble with the aide helping other kids when David doesn’t need her. I’m pretty sure he is the only one with it on his IEP now that I know the other child doesn’t have it in his.
I am becoming a lot less happy with the school. This isn’t the only problem we have had this year.
