Chronic Effects of Autism
April 1st, 2007It is often known that many autistic kids also suffer from digestive ailments which I believe in turn causes the autistic behavior in some of those cases. What concerns me is the possible chronic effects of toxins produced by a faulty digestive system.
I am reading a book “The Self Help Way to Treat Colitis and Other IBS Conditions” by De Lamar Gibbons, M.D. He talks of various intestional diseases that produce toxins when the lining of the intestine is injured and then allow toxins into the bloodstream where the liver eventually has to work to detoxify. According to Dr. Gibbons this overload of toxins can actually destroy the liver.
The idea of toxins from the digestive tract is familiar to me as I have studied autism. I am seriously concerned about the autistic kids and their long term well being. Are these kids going to have a short and physically sick life? Is it imperative that these kids get on a healing diet as soon as the autism is found? If autism is truly a behavior caused by toxins is the liver of these kids in line to go down at some later point in life?
Does anyone know anything more about this?
