Fish oil and Vitamins
April 1st, 2007leca :What do you use and where do you get it? I am thinking of trying some of these.
SashasMom :We use Nordic Naturals brand. They have a liquid form and also a soft gell chewable form for kids who will chew them.
We use to use liquid but now use chewable and my son loves them.
My son uses the Children’s DHA which is Cod liver oil.
and OMEGA 3, 6, 9 Junior for the pro-efa fish oil.
Berry Keen is one of the liquids that has a good flavor to it. It is a cod liver oil.
And Pro-EFA Liquid is the children’s liquid brand of Omega 3,6,9.
We purchase ours at Wellness Pharmacy in Birmingham, AL BUT if you have a local health food store they should carry these brands and if not then ask them to and they should carry it for you. However Wellness will mail to you if you have to go that route.
It looks like you can order directly from the website so maybe that it an option for you. All of their products are gluten and casein free.
randy :I’m glad Crystal mentioned using fish oils, we have ben using them for over a year now. Some are flavored which helps get it down but sometimes the flavoring bothers the autism part a little until their body adjusts. Fish oils are highly spoken of by many to treat autism. We pour a little in a cup and draw it up with a small plastic syringe (no needle of course) and then give it to them.
I would try going gluten and casine free, generally this step one for dietary intervention. In avoiding milk you will need another good calcium source. Gluten includes wheat, barley, oatmeal and rye. Avoid these. Rice is generally OK but don’t feed all rice all the time. Try a diet of various foods, consulting with a dietician if necessary to be sure the child gets enough of everything. A “perfect” autism diet involves lots more so continue to research and ask lots of questions.
Often these children are bothered by food preservatives and food colorings. Also troublesome are most spices (salt is OK).
Learn to read labels, something like “barley malt” won’t work.
Natural food toxins are also troublesome. Includes many colored fruits, chocolate, mint, peanuts, ketchup, etc. Sometimes we found that if they crave it, it also brings back autistic symptoms. It does require a lot of experimenting and sometimes a lot of home cooking with very basic ingredients.
SashasMom :I have never heard of the nightshade plant! I will certainly look more into that.
My great grandmother is still alive and just turned 103 this past November. She still uses lard!
I have been looking a lot into Iridology for myself after a woman at the health food store stopped me and told me that my colon was toxic by looking into my eyes. It sounds crazy but I went to a specialist about it and everything she said was true. When the doctor read the results I read the paper she had written my “informal diagnosis” down on it matched his. Basically I have really bad acidic problems in my bowls or something and am having to go through some treatments. This type of problem is a common thing that many colon cancer patients had before they developed cancer.
I believe that mine is food allergy related and it going on so long untreated and me not changing my diet caused other problems.
