How do you really know if it’s autism?
April 1st, 2007Mitch was back to see the dev ped we have been seeing for over a year now (four times to be exact). He will be two in two weeks. She has sent us for genetic testing, everything came back fine, she wants him to go for an MRI, Mitch just had surgery for a hernia and my husband and I do not want to put him through anethesia again. She has kept the diag the same, Gross dev delays. He is completely nonverbal, and just starting to respond to his name and key phrases like “baba”, “out”, “up”, and other simple phrases. He is very small for his age, he still wears 12 month clothing. Most people think he is 10 mos-12 mos old based on all the above info. He has extreme oral defensiveness, and only eats crunchy gfcf snacks and baby food stage 2 foods mixed with soy yogurt.
This doctor still thinks that there is something genetic going on, all of his therapists, OT, PT, Speech, and DI, believe that he is on the spectrum. At around 10 mos I had his metal levels tested and he was very high in everything except mercury. I have no idea what to think anymore…
