Several basic questions about Autism
May 29th, 20071.Does it always start since childhood, i mean are autistics always born with it?
Autism is a developmental disorder. It becomes “expressed” when something goes wrong in the development process. -The cause of autism is thought to be largely genetic than environmental, however it is controversial.
2.do all autistics clever in maths and/or drawing?
NO! These are the views that have been generated by the rain man film I think. People with autism may be good at all different things-just like people without. There are many who have no interest at all in mathematics and are not good in it either. (just like in the general population!)
3.Is it possible that someone is autistic without knowing that he/she is?
Yes.
4.how would a person know that he/she is autistic?what signs may indicate autism?
Difficulty in understanding or grasping concepts about the way the world works-when others do. May be obsessions with certain things.
5.is there a cure for autism?
No.
6.are there levels for autism?
Yes, there are levels and types. Remember that autism is concidered part of the autistic spectrum But autism itself is a spectrum. However you will be diagnosed with it or not- and would unlikely be given an “degree of autism number”.
7.can people with autism live normally?
What is living normally? Everyone is different. If you mean marry and have children, and live independantly then yes- some can and some can’t.
8.do autistics have problems with communication with ALL people or can these problems be with the opposite gender?
In general the problem is with all people. However, most “normal” people have more problems in communication with the opposite gender ,and it may manifest itself more with autism.
