Are Autism and MMR related?

Ask??????My baby just got her shots at 12 months, and now I read that some studies show that baby’s who got this shot at 12 months has developed Autism. What are your thoughts? I’m worried.

Answer??????There is NO scientific evidence that the MMR vaccine is related to autism-especially the MMR vaccine they have now. In the past, some MMR vaccines contained thimerosal which contained a form of mercury. This mercury was blamed for causing autism in some kids. Now NO MMR vaccine contains this compound.

Furthermore–there have been many studies to find a correlation between vaccinations and autism. No study so far has shown a correlation. These studies have been done all over the world and no correlation has been found.

Autism comes in many forms. Most kids with autism are diagnosed around age two but if you view home videos and interview the parents you find that the symptoms they display go back almost to birth.

However, NOT vaccinating children against measles, mumps, and rubella, as well as other infectious diseases exposes children to a great deal of risk from those diseases.

Here is a statement from the CDC “Today, with the exception of some Influenza (flu) vaccines, none of the vaccines used in the U.S. to protect preschool children against 12 infectious diseases contain thimerosal as a preservative.”

While I don’t think that mercury in thimerosal in vaccines caused autism, I do thing that the form of mercury present in the environment in the form of pollution, especially from coal plants, DOES play a role in autism and other developmental disorders. I think that the mercury affects the development of the fetus. But the studies are still preliminary at this point.
