Will DPT shots cause autism in a child
July 23rd, 2007Ask:
I have read that certain children’s immunizations are “multi-packed” in one syringe. The preservative used is mercury based and can cause autism. My grandchild is due for her DPT, and I am very concerned. Any thoughts or advice?
Answer:
There is, obviously, a lot of debate on the vaccine/autism issue. It is not completely true that Thimerosol has been removed but you can purchase certified Thimerosol free DPT vaccine. Also, it was the MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine that has been the suspected culprit, not DPT. Not sure if you can get a certified MMR vaccine. Also, Autistic Specturm Disorders(ASD) run in families. If you or your spouse don’t have anyone in the line with ASD, then you’re pretty safe.
