Autism and Smoking

September 21st, 2007

Q: How many (% wise, if possible) autistic and/or epileptic children have a parent that smoke? A article makes me think about how my brother is autistic and epileptic and my dad had smoked for years before he was born.

Answer:

I cannot answer for the epileptic diagnose part of you question, but I can answer you for the Autism part.

No smoking does not cause fetuses to be born with Autism.

Autism has recently been discovered to be genetically hereditary. This is big news in the Autistic community. Autism is a birth defect putting something so complicated into birth defect is just sometimes easier to say and explain.
