Can colour help autism?

It’s hard to say whether colour can help autism. Different stimulus have different effects on different autistic people. No two are alike. They will all have their own special things that help them.

Colour can be a useful way of prescribing order to things. If a child with autism has difficulty communicating or understanding, colour can help distinguish things and help establish routine. For example, a different colour table cloth to signify a particular mealtime, or a certain colour sign to convey rules and regulations (red=stop, green=go).

The world can be a confusing place to an autistic person, so colours can help make sense of it. Autistic people often like sameness and predictability, because it makes the world a safer place for them. Colour coding and use of colours can certainly help with this.
