My brother has Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome
September 28th, 2007My brother had BIG aggressive issues when he was young, and learning problems. He has Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome.
For a while the doctors wanted to put my brother on medications, but my parents wouldn’t have it (ALWAYS check into the side-effects, some of those medications are pretty scary). They did their research and found a public school that accepted only Autistic children from about four counties in the area. All of the teachers are specially trained to work with Autistic children and it has worked wonders for him, and my sister who also has Autism.
They will both be in school there until they are 26 – they not only learn the normal stuff but also a trade skill to help them care for themselves when they graduate. You may want to contact your local ASA (Autism Society of America) group for help. They can tell you if there are any schools of this type in the area, and can put you in touch with support groups, workshops, etc. Also, I have heard Cranial Sacral therapy can work wonders with Autistic children, as can a completely non-dairy diet. It depends on the child and the type of Autism though. Good luck, and feel free to contact me (I have the option selected on here) if you have any other questions or just need someone to talk to.
