The difference between Pinks Disease and Autism

September 28th, 2007

Pinks disease symptoms—severe leg cramps; irritability; and abnormal redness of the skin, followed by peeling of the hands, nose, and sole of the feet. Itching, swelling, fever, fast heart reate, elevated blood pressure, excessive salivation or sweating, rashes, fretfulness, sleeplessness, and/or weakness may also be present. This disorder may also occur in teenagers and adults. Exposure to mercury vapors is more dangerous for children than for adults, because inhaled mercury vapors easily pass into the brain and nervous system of young children and may interfere with the development process.

Autism is a disorder, not a disease, so it isn’t entirely accurate to refer to autism “symptoms.” Instead, there are certain signs and behavioral patterns that indicate autism. Most autism symptoms develop before the child is three years old, although signs may be present as early as one year of age. Autism symptoms cover a wide range of communication, performance, and behavioral deficits.
