Alphabet Appletree and my autistic son
October 2nd, 2007When my son was about 5, I bought him an electronic toy called an “Alphabet Appletree”. Well, he stopped playing with it for the longest time and one day I decided it was time to do some “closet shoveling”. I forgot all about the toy (and I thought he did too) for almost FIVE YEARS. Well, I was wrong, as you probably guessed.
Before Christmas last year I asked him if there was anything special he would like. This child asks for hardly anything (unlike his brother) and asked for his Alphabet Appletree.
You know how sometimes our kids can perseverate over certain things? Well, this child is not very verbal but all I heard was “Alphabet Appletree for Christmans, Alphabet Appletree for Christmas” with a big smile on his face repeated over and over and over again….
Well, V-tech is the name of the company and they no longer make the toy! (Vtech whenever I see you post I always think about this and wonder if you have the same toy
Well, I found ONE LONE Alphabet Appletree for sale in all of the US on E-Bay for $5.00 plus shipping. The child was over the moon with happiness and despite the other presents he got that moring, nothing compared to that! It was a trip!
Moral of the story? Never throw anything away if you can help it!
