Jenny McCarthy’s autism story
October 2nd, 2007I guess I wish I had some recovery story to tell. Just like this little boy that was in Joe’s class and was dx’d around the same time as Joe. Now you would never know he has autism. He always comes up to us at school and says hi to me and Joe and Joe barely acknowleges he is there.
What gets me is that I actually went out and got services at home for Joe. This little boy’s mother didn’t, but her son improved and mine didn’t.
Now Joe at ten still barely has any language and is very autistic. He has been refusing to do speech therapy for the last three weeks. Last week he ran out of the office and to my van and got in it. This week he went into the office, but when the speech therapist came to get him, he refused to go in. I ended up going in to observe and Joe refused to do any of his tasks and screamed most of the time.
My older children tell me that they don’t blame him. They feel that Joe has too much therapy as he has two hour ABA apointments after school even on the nights he doesn’t have speech. I want to help him, but maybe he just is who he is and that’s that. It can be very tiring and frustrating at times.
