“Autism Spectrum Disorder” covers quite a wide spectrum.

I just came from an autism workshop & there were a few parents there whose kid, if you were to offer a choice of an apple or banana by showing a picture of an apple & banana, wouldn’t get it. You’d have to present the actual fruit.

The other extreme (usually Asperger’s) can be computer programers & engineers. Many people suspect Bill Gates is autistic (Aspergers.)

My neice is mostly non-verbal, can’t read but understands pictures very well. She usually doesn’t do a lot of head banging, either.
