October 14th, 2007Yes,kids with autism are qualify for disability benefits.
If a doctor diagnosed your child with Autism, get something from the doctor that says that and take it to the Social Security Office. Fill out the application, they will make an appointment to review your claim. He/She will quality for SSI if you meet certain income requirements.
You will be asked to bring this information (taxes, pay stubs) and the diagnosis to a meeting. They will help you fill out paperwork and interview you. After that, you wait a couple month until they make their decision. You may also qualify for respite care and medical care. Good Luck.
