Autism is a neurodevelopmental disability. It affects communication, social developement, and behaviors. Autism is different for every person that has it. Some may have some speech and love to be by people, while others may be very reclusive and nearly mute. It is often more difficult for children with autism to reach milestones in life. A “normal” child may learn to walk at age one, whereas an autistic child may be two or even three. Talking tends to be very difficult. It may be hard to understand what these people are saying, and they may have a limited vocabulary. Often times, Autistics may need something to help them with behaviors.

Autism is becoming a more common disorder. The chances of getting it today are about 1 in 150. Autism is something you can get at birth. It is not contagious. The chances of Autism used to be much lower, about one in 250. Autism is thought to be caused by immunizations given to the child at birth.
