Boys are more prone to autism
November 4th, 2007Boys show autistic traits at a ratio of generally 4:1 as compared with girls, the reason not being entirely clear.
The most established theory I know of has to do with the idea that autism is a physical exaggeration of a typically male pattern of brain chemistry or wiring. The idea is that autism is the extreme form of a non-verbal, impersonal, analytical way of brain function that is somehow hardwired into the brain in a way that causes dysfunction, as opposed to the more general view of the female brain as social and verbal.
