I am so frusterated right now. I knew this was going to happen. The school managed to drag things out and here we are a few weeks before Christmas and we still have not had the IEP.

So we finally get a date and my advocate can not make that date. I got the IEP invitation in the mail today and once again they have invited all these people from a school district that we don’t want our son in.

When he was originally diagnosed with autism, our district said oh we don’t have an AI program in our district so we will send you to another district and bus your children to and from school.
Now that my child is ready to be mainstreamed they want to ship him back to our district. The problem with that is that, I don’t want nothing to do with our district, number one because it stinks. Number two, they wanted to stick our son in a cross categorical program with AI and Emotionally Impaired children not at all what our goal was. Our goals was to get our son in the LRE. So we requested school of choice they told us it wasn’t an option that the window was closed. We want our son to remain in that same district at the same school. Here is the thing the AI program is placed in that school but basically are renting the space there. So they are telling us he can not go to school there. My son has extreme anxiety and is still vomiting. I wanted to keep as many variables the same that we can. We will have to change the class, the teacher, etc but if we can keep the same school and I can drive him in with his sister as I always do and he can go home on the same bus, I believe it will reduce a great amount of anxiety for him. Anyway I was told that they were supposed to create and AI program for us in our district because they did not have one but we were willing to be shipped to another district and now we want to stay they are sending us on our way and telling us too bad.

Well we discovered that school of choice does have another open window and the deadline for the district we want to be in is next week we already turned all our paperwork in. I guess they can still turn us down with an excuse but now on the invitation to the IEP all these people are attending it again that are from the scchool district I don’t want anything to do with. The last time we met the program director for that district was running her big mouth and running our IEP when she does not even know my son. This woman was obnoxious, I actually had difficulty staying in the same room with her. It got so bad we suggested we reconvene and that is what we did. We left there and immediately made an appointment with the advocate.

Things have been so busy we have had little contact with the advocate but I found out today the day I worked out with to schedule the IEP is not going work for the advocate and now I have to contact them again to reschedule. I can’t believe they once again are bringing people to this meeting from a district that I refuse to put my child in and I feel so strongly about that, that If that district is my only option I would homeschool.

Anyway, I have to contact them to reschedule hopefully we will find a date that works for everyone. I have a feeling they will come back with well that is only date we have open otherwise it will have to be after Christmas. We still need to hammer out our AB & C plan for the transition process of mainstreaming him and put on paper the supports he will need etc. There is so much stuff and it seems like they are holding everything up on this placement issue.

This is the first time we have had this kind of response from them. We used to have a decent relationship but since we began talking mainstreaming suddenly everything has changed it is more like we are going to gang up on you and bully you and the gloves are off type of meeting. It is very stressful on top of trying to get ready for the holidays. I am just so overwhelmed with everything going on between the holidays, the most important IEP we have had yet and issues with community mental health services. Apparently Michigan has made huge cut backs and they are making issues out of everything just like insurance companies do. Let find loop holes that will get us right out of providing you with services. I could just scream.
