How to Calm Screaming Autistic Kids

December 16th, 2011

Children with autism do not have enough language skills to express their needs, desire and feelings, in this case, if the parents haven’t solve their problems timely, they often scream loud and lose temper easily. The solution idea, is to observe the autistic kid and guess what they need, and take care of it appropriately. Because there’s no language can be used, this is the only way to calm screaming autistic children.

When the kid loses temper at public places, the best solution is to take the kid away from the scene as soon as possible. If the child screams at home, as long as there is no self-injurious behavior, it should be disregarded, and adhere untill he calms down. Besides, you can bring him to a separate room, get him isolated for a period of time, until he stopped screaming, once he dose stop, praise him immediately, and give appropriate encouragement. Remember, you must ignore him till the temper tantrum stops, or the reward is useless. To do this, the trainer must have strong nerves like steel and closed ears like deaf.

When autistic children scream, don’t try to comfort the child in anyway to achieve a moment of peace. As a result, it makes the child think that screaming is a useful measure to get what he need. In addition, don’t use violence like flapping and frighten to stop him either. When the autistic kid has learned how to use words, when he loses temper, the trainer could try to stop him with a firm voice or attitude.
